My iPad Affair Caused a Divorce From My Laptop

iPad

I purchased my iPad2 assuming it would be a decent back-up when I didn't want to carry my laptop. The reviews all stated that the iPad wasn't intended as a replacement for a laptop so my expectations weren't high. I didn't intend to fall in love.  I never anticipated my iPad affair to cause a divorce with my laptop.

I've owned a laptop since they first came on the market.  Do you remember the early laptops? They were big - huge by today's standards - and were portable only if you worked out regularly and had a strong back. I upgraded my first laptop to a whopping 250 mg memory.  It was fully loaded with the 3 programs available and I learned every bell and whistle of each.  I was a Microsoft chick and totally cool. I never intended to "step out" from the relationship.  I didn't meant to stray.

The iPad strutted it's stuff early. It fits in my purse (a normal sized purse, not a briefcase purse) and it doesn't require time to boot up (just open it up and it's ready to go!). I have mobile access to the MLS, ZipForms for contracts, property information through the app provided by my Title company, DocuSign, SignMyPad, Top Producer and Box.net as my hard-drive in "the cloud".  I have drawing apps and games to keep fussy children of any age occuppied.  I use Davinci to take notes when previewing a property.  I can take pictures, edit them, drag and drop them to a flyer in minutes and send them to the printer.  Then my brokerage, Alain Pinel Realtors, rolled out an amazing iPad CMA which I can also present on a TV screen.

The writing was on the wall for the divorce when I tried to scroll my laptop screen with my fingers and was surprised when it didn't work. My laptop and I have a history, we worked well together and had good times.  I tried to be fair, I tried to give then equal time but ultimately I had to choose. I'm sorry.  We've grown in different directions, I have to move on.
